71 WIWAG - Aces Advance to Finals

GAME 6

A clear day in Wrigley as the temp is 52 degrees but with the wind blowing in 26 mph. Match up Siebert vs Gullet
Scoreless until the top of the 3rd when Siebert helped his own cause by hitting a lead off HR. In the bottom of the 4th Aaron led off with a single and Bando followed him with a HR to left and the Outlaws were ahead. In the top of the 5th the Aces had Siebert again leading off and he doubled down the 1B line, Hershberger single to shallow center and Siebert holding up at 2nd base to make sure Willie Davis didn't catch the ball only made it to 3rd base.Clarke grounder to Cepada, who bobbled the ball but still was able to nail Siebert at the plate. Gullet retired the next two quietly to end the inning. Aces had small rallies but in the 9th inning the stage was set for a big Aces rally, Blomberg pinch hit for Clarke and in came Hamilton to face him and after getting 2 strikes on Blomberg he hit him, that was enough for the Outlaws manager and took Hamilton out of the game and replaced him with Romo. Pepitone now was going to pinch hit for Siebert, Blomberg took his lead and on the first pitch Blomberg took off for second, Pepitone took the pitch and Sims fired a rocket to Belanger who tag out Blomberg. Pepitone then singled and Harmon pinch ran for Pepitone. Next batter up was Hershberger but in came Larry Stahl to bat for him. Stahl lined a single to left and when Hank Aaron misplayed the bounce both runners moved up a base, men on 2nd and 3rd,one out, Clarke up followed by Chambliss, Clarke took the 1st two pitches for a ball and on the next pitch hit a pop fly ball to Helms for out number two. With the crowd on its feet hoping for a 7th game up came Chambliss, Chambliss was 0 for 3 with 2 K's so far in the game, Romo first two pitches again were balls and on the on deck circle was Billy Williams who is a terror with runners on base so Rome had to make sure he did not walk Chambliss on the next pitch Chambliss rolled a weak grounder to Helms who throw out Chambliss to end the game and force a game 7 in what has turned out to be a fantastic series between two evenly matched teams.

GAME 7

A clear but cold day in Wrigley today with temp at 38 degrees,Looking at the fans it seems like a Bears football game by the way they were dressed. Match ups Billingham vs Stoneman
Aces struck early in the 1st inning as Clarke led off with a double and Northrup singled him home, Blomberg also singled and before the crowd to get settled in their seats the Aces had scored a run and have runners on 1st and 2nd no outs and Williams coming to the plate. Williams hit a shot to 3B Bando who was playing deep and quickly turned a 5-4-3 DP. Next batter was Pepitone and it seemed like Stoneman wanted no part of him and walked him on 4 pitches, McMullem was up next and struck out to retire the side. the Outlaws were lucky to only have one run scored on them. In the top of the 2nd Billingham hit a HR that marked the 3rd time in this series that an Aces pitcher hit a HR. Both pitchers were in command until the top of the 5th when Blomberg hit a HR to make the score 3-0 Aces. Again no scoring threats until the bottom of the 8th when Cepeda pinch hitting for Stoneman singled Davis hit a hard grounder up the middle and Brinkman who was brought in this inning for def replacement grab the ball flipped it to Clarke who nip Davis at 1st for a DP.Belanger singled and Bonds reach 1st on a infield base hit bring up Hammerin' Hank who represented the tying run at the plate, the fans were looking for the long one but Hammer struck out to retire the side and maybe the Outlaws season. We come to the bottom of the 9th and the crowd is on their feet hoping for one of those classic rallies that the Outlaws have had this season. Bando up and on the 1st pitch lines a basehit, Manual follow with a grounder to second forcing Bando, Helms on a 3-2 count hits the ball off the plate and Cannizzaro one hands it and fires down to first getting Helms out by a step.Sims walks and now Billingham has himself in a jam as he has thrown close to 130 pitches and looks tired. With Hamilton due up Leron Lee pinch hits for him and with the crowd cheering on every pitch hits a roller to McMullen who forces Sims for the final out of the series. The Chicago faithful went home sadly but they saw a great series between the two teams.
